Ayça Çetin

 

            Turkish flutist Ayça Çetin who has performed throughout Turkey, United States, Kosovo, England, and Italy is acclaimed for her outstanding performances and wide repertoire.

 

               As an active soloist and a chamber musician she had the privilege of performing at several national and international festivals including the International Eskisehir Music Festival (Turkey, 2005), the International Mersin Music Festival (Turkey, 2006 and 2009), the National Flute Association (Pittsburgh, US, 2006 – Las Vegas, NV, 2012 – Chicago, IL, 2014), the International Kosovo Flute Festival (2007), the British Flute Society (Manchester, England, 2008), the Falaut Festival (Italy, 2009), Chicago Flute Club (US, 2012), and New York Flute Club (US, 2014).

 

               Ayça was chosen as the winner of the National Flute Association Convention Performers Competition and recipient of the honorable mention award at the Nixon Woodwind Competition in 2012. She also won the National Flute Association Masterclass Performers Competition and was chosen as one of the six finalists at the New York Flute Club Competition in 2014. Very recently, she won the Boston Woodwind Society 2015 Doriot Dwyer Flute Merit Award Competition.

 

              Miss Çetin has performed in masterclasses by Paula Robison, Maxence Larrieu, Marina Piccinini, Amy Porter, Gergely Ittzes, Bulent Evcil, Davide Formisano, Andrea Oliva, Caen Thomason Redus, Kathleen Rudolph, Tadeu Coelho, Raffaele Trevisani, Susan Hoeppner, John Heiss, Renee Siebert, Jeff Zook, Sibel Kumru Pensel, Jean Ferrandis, and participated masterclasses by Emmanuel Pahud, Alexa Still, Greg Pattillo, Robert Dick, Mats Möller, William Dowdall, Marco Granados, Gary Schocker, Trudy Kane, Elizabeth Rowe as a listener.

             

               At the age of 15, she performed W. A. Mozart’s C Major Andante as soloist with the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory Youth Orchestra. In addition, she performed C. Reinecke’s Flute Concerto with the 

Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory Symphony Orchestra at the Mandalina Festival in Bodrum, in 2010. She also performed the same concerto with the Central Michigan University Symphony Orchestra in 2012.

 

               Ayça lately discovered her passion for new music and world music. Since 2012 she commissioned and premiered several solo and chamber works by Mike Romaniak, Evan Boegehold, Kevin Wilson, Nathan Brown, Yunus Gencer, Jarrett Goodchild, Bryce Craig, and Clifton Ingram. Also, in recent years she has played Turkish and Eastern European music in a variety of chamber groups. She took part in the “Ruhnuvaz” concert series between 2009 and 2012. In 2011, she recorded a Turkish music album with the founder of the Ruhnuvaz concert series Mehmet Refik Kaya and Celil Refik Kaya titled “Subh-u Seher”.

 

               She got accepted to Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory in Istanbul, Turkey where she continued her studies under the direction of Vieri Bottazzini at the age of 13 (2003). In 2011, Ayca Cetin graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory with Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance with honors. Also in 2011, she was accepted to Central Michigan University with a full scholarship and teaching assistantship award to study with Joanna White. She completed her Master of Music in Flute Performance at CMU in 2013 and recently finished her Graduate Performance Diploma program at The Boston Conservatory under the guidance of Linda Toote. She will be starting her Doctor of Musical Arts program at Florida State University as a teaching assistant this fall.
